Submissions are due by November 22nd at 11:59 p.m.

Submission Process:  Please email your previously unpublished Fiction, Poetry, Critical Analysis, Creative Non-Fiction, and Art/Photography submissions as a .doc, .docx, or .jpeg (for art/photographs) attachment to for possible inclusion in the 2014-2015 edition of Calaveras Station Literary Journal. LIMIT:  Three submissions per category, per person. Any additional submissions will not be read. A submission will only be considered under one category, so choose wisely. Submissions should be double-spaced and in 12 pt. font. The attachment should NOT have the author’s name or information anywhere in it, just the title(s). If making multiple submissions, you may either send them individually or in the same attachment. In the subject line, please write “CSLJ Submission” and the category. In the body of the email, please include the following information:

Email Address
Telephone Number
Submission Category(ies)

Please have each email subject read: CSLJ Submission - Category

Remember, if you are submitting to more than one category, please have separate emails for each category, and label the subject area as indicated above.

(for multiple submissions, please email each work for each section separately, multiple submissions in one category can be sent in one email. This is to make  it clear which titles go to which categories)

PLEASE NOTE:  You must be enrolled as a CSUS student in the Fall 2014 or Spring 2015 (undergraduate or graduate) to be eligible for publication in this school year’s Calaveras Station.

Selection Process:  All submissions will be distributed to section editors for blind judging.  Section editors will submit a short list, per category, to the executive editors who will then, in conjunction with faculty advisors, make final decisions based on quality and space available.  Those chosen for publication will be notified by phone or email and will have a chance to read their work, if they wish, at a release party to be held in May 2015.  All chosen for publication will receive two complimentary copies of the journal.

When will I know if my work has been selected for publication?

Because we typically receive a high volume of submissions, and we want to give our editors a chance to fully consider all submitted work, we are not able to announce the works that have been selected until the Spring semester.  We will be holding workshops for the submissions in the early part of February, so please do not expect a response any sooner than the end of February.  Everyone who submits will receive an email indicating whether their submissions have been accepted or not.

A Final Note:  All of the editors are writers/artists as well, and all of us have had our submissions rejected at one time or another. If you love to write, send us something! If you have a story to tell, send us something! If you think you’re the best photographer on campus, send us something! Our goal is to have to pull our hair out because we are inundated with submissions. No writer got where they did without submitting, and what a better place to start than your own university’s literary journal?  So submit! We look forward to reading your work!
