Welcome to the Rho-Xi Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, located at California State University, Sacramento!
Mission Statement (from the Phi Alpha Theta website):
"We are a professional society whose mission is to promote the study of history through the encouragement of research, good teaching, publication and the exchange of learning and ideas among historians. We seek to bring students and teachers together for intellectual and social exchanges, which promote and assist historical research and publication by our members in a variety of ways."
Phi Alpha Theta provides outstanding history students with an opportunity to take part in various society sponsored activities related to the field of history. Phi Alpha Theta members are given the chance to discuss historical issues with their fellow peers, participate in a variety of research opportunities, and aid in the publication process of the History Department’s annual journal, Clio.
Undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in joining the National Phi Alpha Theta Honor Society should see the "Phi Alpha Theta Membership Requirements" link for more information and deadlines for joining the chapter. Students do NOT need to be eligible for the honor society or even be history majors to attend our sponsored history lectures/workshops. See the "Meetings, Lectures & Presentations" link for upcoming speakers, dates/times, and location. Information about the Clio History Journal is also available. We are considering applicants to edit for the 2014 edition of Clio. Information for potential editors and authors is available at the link to the right.
